Here we are, Week 7, sitting at 3-2 and looking to take down the defending Super Bowl Champions in their house. This won't be an easy game, but with the talent and coaching we currently have, there is no reason to believe we can't pull out the win. Here are my 3 keys to success for this week's game.
1. Pass Rush and Containment
Last week our pass rush was a step up from the week before and it’s going to have to be even better this week. The ends are gonna have to keep Wentz in the pocket and collapse it on him. Last year, before Wentz got hurt he was the second best QB outside of the pocket with a passer rating at 107.0. If we allow him to extend plays it’s gonna be a nightmare for us and our defense will be on the field way too long. This should be a perfect game for Poe to break out and show why we paid him 10 million a year.
2. Run the Ball
Another way to help the defense out is to have them on the sideline along with Wentz and company. If we can get McCaffrey and company going on the ground it will help us control the clock and make Philly score quick. The Eagles D-line is no joke and they know how to get after the QB. It’s not gonna be easy to get the run game going since Philly is 5th in the league in rushing yards against, but with some draw plays and getting Cam outside the pocket to run will help us succeed.
3. Win the Battle in the Trenches
The third and probably the most important one is winning the battle up front on both offense and defense. Carolinas line has given up 8 sacks so far this year which is tied for second best in the league. The Eagles defense has racked up 16 sacks so far this season and averaging 2.7 sacks per game the last 3 games, including a 4 sack game last week. Carolina has 12 sacks on the year and averages 2.4 per game and 1.5 sacks per game on the road. Eagles O-line has given up 18 sacks this season which ranks 25th in the league so the opportunity should be there for us. Carolinas O-line is 5th in rushing in adjusted line yards percentage and Philly is sitting at 9. Carolina is at 4.87 yards per carry and Philly is at 4.20. Overall the lines matchup against each other pretty evenly. Whoever wins in the trenches will win this game.
If we can execute the 3 keys to success, we will leave Philly with a 4-2 record and back on notice as the team to beat.
Lucas' Score Prediction:
Panthers- 31
Eagles- 28
